5 In-Demand Tech Certifications for AI, Cloud, Data & Security

Technology Published Updated

Technology employers continue to need professionals who can work across artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, data engineering, cybersecurity and cloud-native platforms. Certifications can help document relevant technical knowledge and make it easier for employers to evaluate skills, particularly when the credential aligns closely with the technologies used in a target role.

The five credentials below cover different parts of the technology ecosystem. They are not ranked from first to fifth; instead, they represent current certification paths connected to major areas of technology hiring and infrastructure investment.

1. Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate

Provider: Microsoft
Exam: AI-103
Level: Intermediate

Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate validates skills in designing, developing and deploying AI applications and agents using Azure and Microsoft Foundry.

Microsoft describes the credential as covering generative and agentic AI, computer vision, text analysis, information extraction and management of Azure AI solutions. Candidates should have experience developing applications with Python and familiarity with AI concepts and Azure services. Microsoft Learn

Why it may matter for tech careers: Organizations are expanding the use of AI-enabled applications, and this credential is specifically aligned with developing and deploying AI solutions in Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem.

Roles it may support: AI engineer, AI developer, cloud developer and software-development roles involving Azure AI technologies.

Important update: Microsoft’s previous Azure AI Engineer Associate certification and AI-102 exam retired June 30, 2026. Microsoft identifies Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate as the replacement certification. Microsoft Learn

2. AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate

Provider: Amazon Web Services
Level: Associate

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate validates the ability to design AWS solutions that are secure, resilient, high-performing and cost optimized.

AWS describes the certification as a starting point for candidates with AWS Cloud experience or strong on-premises IT experience. The target candidate should have at least one year of hands-on experience designing cloud solutions using AWS services, although that experience is recommended rather than presented as a formal prerequisite. Amazon Web Services, Inc.

Why it may matter for tech careers: Cloud architecture remains central to application deployment, infrastructure modernization, data platforms and AI workloads. A 2025 survey of technology executives conducted by Coursera and AWS found that 63% ranked cloud skills as their top training priority. Amazon Web Services, Inc.

Roles it may support: Solutions architect, cloud engineer, infrastructure engineer and other roles involving AWS architecture.

For additional labor-market context, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a May 2025 median annual wage of $134,050 for computer network architects and projects employment in that occupation to grow 8% from 2025 through 2035. This is occupational data, not a salary estimate for AWS-certified professionals specifically. Bureau of Labor Statistics

3. Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer

Provider: Google Cloud
Level: Professional

The Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer certification validates the ability to design data-processing systems, ingest and process data, store data, prepare information for analysis, and maintain and automate data workloads.

Google currently lists no formal prerequisites. It recommends three or more years of industry experience, including at least one year designing and managing solutions using Google Cloud. The certification is currently valid for two years. Google Cloud

Why it may matter for tech careers: Modern AI, analytics and cloud applications depend on reliable data pipelines and infrastructure. Data-engineering skills can therefore support organizations building analytics, machine-learning and enterprise data platforms.

Roles it may support: Data engineer, cloud data engineer, data-platform engineer and related cloud/data roles.

As a related labor-market indicator, BLS reports that data scientists had a May 2025 median annual wage of $120,230 and projects employment to grow 35% from 2025 through 2035. That BLS occupation is not equivalent to the Google credential, but it illustrates continued demand in data-focused technology work. Bureau of Labor Statistics

4. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

Provider: ISC2

CISSP is an advanced information-security certification covering eight domains, including security and risk management, security architecture and engineering, identity and access management, security operations and software-development security.

To earn CISSP, candidates generally need at least five years of cumulative professional experience in two or more of the eight CISSP domains. An eligible degree or approved credential may satisfy up to one year of the experience requirement. Candidates who pass the exam before meeting the experience requirement may pursue Associate of ISC2 status while completing the required experience. ISC2

Why it may matter for tech careers: Cybersecurity continues to be a fast-growing technology field. BLS projects employment of information security analysts to grow 21% from 2025 through 2035, substantially faster than the overall occupational average. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Roles it may support: Security architect, information-security manager, security engineer and other experienced cybersecurity roles.

BLS reports a May 2025 median annual wage of $129,180 for information security analysts. Again, that is occupational wage data and should not be interpreted as a salary attached specifically to holding CISSP. Bureau of Labor Statistics

5. Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

Providers: Cloud Native Computing Foundation and The Linux Foundation

Certified Kubernetes Administrator is a performance-based certification designed to demonstrate hands-on Kubernetes administration skills.

Unlike a conventional multiple-choice certification, the CKA exam requires candidates to solve Kubernetes administration problems in a command-line environment. Current exam domains include cluster architecture and configuration, workloads and scheduling, services and networking, storage, and troubleshooting. CNCF

Why it may matter for tech careers: Kubernetes has become a core cloud-native infrastructure technology. CNCF’s 2025 Annual Cloud Native Survey reported that 82% of surveyed container users were running Kubernetes in production, while 66% of organizations hosting generative-AI models were using Kubernetes for some or all inference workloads. CNCF

Roles it may support: Kubernetes administrator, platform engineer, cloud engineer, DevOps engineer and site-reliability roles.

The official CKA page does not present a formal prior-certification requirement. However, because the exam is hands-on and performance based, candidates should be prepared to administer Kubernetes from the command line. CNCF

How to Choose an In-Demand Tech Certification

Start with the type of technology work you want to perform rather than choosing a certification simply because it is popular.

For AI application development in Microsoft’s ecosystem, AI-103 may be relevant. For AWS cloud architecture, Solutions Architect – Associate aligns more directly with designing AWS environments. Google Professional Data Engineer focuses on data infrastructure, while CISSP is intended for experienced cybersecurity professionals. CKA is most directly aligned with Kubernetes administration and cloud-native infrastructure.

Before enrolling, compare the credential’s current exam objectives, recommended experience, renewal requirements and technologies with the qualifications employers list for the jobs you want.

Are Tech Certifications Enough to Get a Job?

A certification can strengthen your qualifications, but it does not replace every other hiring requirement.

Employers may also consider professional experience, projects, education, technical interviews, portfolios and experience with specific platforms or tools. Advanced certifications such as CISSP are explicitly designed for professionals who already have significant experience, while other certifications may be more accessible earlier in a technology career.

Use a certification as evidence of relevant knowledge and skills rather than as a guarantee of employment.

Final Thoughts

The strongest technology certification depends on the work you want to do.

AI-103 targets Azure AI development. AWS Solutions Architect – Associate focuses on cloud architecture. Google Professional Data Engineer targets data systems. CISSP validates advanced cybersecurity knowledge and experience. CKA demonstrates hands-on Kubernetes administration skills.

Rather than collecting unrelated credentials, build a certification path around the technologies and responsibilities that appear repeatedly in the jobs you want.
